Door Viewer Cameras: Know Who Is at the Door before Opening It

Securing your home doesn’t stop at making sure you have sturdy locks in place to prevent a break-in. A lot of home invasion incidents involve people opening their doors to strangers or people pretending to be someone else. Traditional peepholes may be helpful, but just approaching the door to take a peek will let the intruder know that there is someone home. One way to fix this problem is to install a door viewer camera.

Surveillance and CCTV cameras installed outside your home can be useful to some extent; however, people with bad intentions are normally aware of the existence of these cameras. They wear caps and jackets to cover up their faces and any distinguishing features that may help in identifying them. A door viewer camera focuses directly on the potential intruder’s face and captures a clear image of every person who comes calling at your door.

How Does It Work?

There are several different versions of this type of security camera out in the market. There may be a difference in features, but the basic idea behind it is the same. These cameras record the image of the person at your front door and you can view these images through a monitor placed far away from your door. This will enable you to screen your visitors and report any suspicious character lurking in front of your home.

If you don’t want people to know that you are recording them, there are door viewer cameras that can be installed in place of the traditional peephole most front doors have.  From the outside, the camera lenses look just like a normal peephole lens. This way guests and unwelcome visitors don’t know that you can see them from the inside. There are also overt cameras that don’t make an effort to hide the fact that you are recording everyone who comes to your door. This can serve as a deterrent against pranksters and criminals.

These cameras can be motion or sound activated which will automatically start recording and capture the image of the person knocking on your door. The camera can also be connected to your door bell. The image is then sent to a monitor where you can view who’s there before you even come to the door. These images are also stored so if you’ve just arrived home from work, you can review who has come knocking at your door while you were away. When you’re done reviewing them, you can either delete them or download the images to your computer for future reference or for use as evidence.

Whether you want added protection against criminal elements or if you just want to find a way to screen your guests before you open the door and let them in, a door viewer camera is a very useful piece of equipment to have. Not only will it save you from intruders and criminal elements that may threaten the safety of your family, you also gain total control of who you let in to your home.
